Fine Gael election candidate Eamonn Coghlan last night told a bizarre anecdote that left television viewers baffled.

The senator was taking part in a debate on the Dublin West by-election with other candidates on TV3’s Tonight With Vincent Browne.

Coghlan, a former Irish Olympian, attempted to tell the story of a disgruntled resident he had encountered on the campaign trail.
