The remains of six nuns who cared for the dying, sick, and poor in a Cork town are to be exhumed and reinterred in their regional headquarters in Limerick.

The nuns were from the Little Company of Mary — also known as the Blue Nuns due to the colour of their habits. The Fermoy order looked after the ill and underprivileged for nearly a century.

They came to the town primarily to look after patients at St Patrick’s Hospital, the running of which was taken over by the Southern Health Board (now HSE South) some years ago.
