Gardaí to roll out crime text alerts

The Cork West Garda Division will in June become the first Garda division in the country to roll out a regional anti-crime text alert system to the public.

Chief Superintendent Tom Hayes, who is in charge of policing the Cork West Garda Division, said people signing up for the text alerts would be asked to pay €5 per year for the service.

The initiative is being undertaken by gardaí in co-operation with the 70 Community Alert and Neighbourhood Watch groups which currently exist in West Cork.
