The Revenue Commissioners have dismissed claims they suspended the recording of phone calls in recent days because of fears about data protection breaches.

Socialist Party MEP Paul Murphy had demanded Revenue make a statement on the matter following what he said was information made available to his office that the recording practices had become a cause of concern.

Revenue said, however, the only changes that it was making to its recording practices was a “technology upgrade” that had the capability to record outgoing calls.
