Ireland received 223 European arrest warrants last year for people suspected of crimes like murder, rape, assault/robery and drugs offences.

The figures are contained in the Department of Justice’s annual report on the operation of the European Arrest Warrant Act.

Of the 223 arrest warrants received by authorities here, a total of 157 warrants resulted in the surrender of individuals to other member states of the EU.
