The widowed father of rugby international Eoin Reddan may have to abandon plans to see his son play in Leinster’s Heineken Cup match in France tomorrow, after being the victim of a hatchet-wielding intruder.

The 74-year-old was home alone near Limerick city when an intruder, wearing a balaclava, left him tied and gagged for over two hours late on Thursday. The raider escaped with a small amount of cash.

After his horrific ordeal, Don Reddan said yesterday: “I’m fine now, but it was a bad experience. I don’t know if I will be going or not to the match in France to see Eoin play.”
