Jimmy Magee to release debut single at the age of 79

The RTÉ star — known as The Memory Man because of his great recall of sporting events — is giving a new touch to the old George Jones single ‘These Old Eyes Have Seen It All.’
And sprightly Jimmy has adapted the country song to give it a distinctly Irish perspective.
The Dundalk native is releasing the song to raise awareness for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association. It’s a cause close to Magee’s heart as his son Paul died from the disease back in 2008.
Jimmy recalled: “The deterioration in Paul’s case was rapid: arms, legs, hands, feet and voice, in that order. For the last five months of his life he couldn’t speak. He couldn’t shake his head or point a finger.
“It’s not life’s natural order to have your children predecease you. I hope for all the families and friends and extended MND community in Ireland that we find that evasive cure and fulfil the vision held by the IMNDA that ‘Together, we will beat MND’.”
The single is released on April 11 and will be available through the 53 Heatons stores nationwide or on heatonsstores.com.
The sports commentator is checking whether he could be the oldest person to release a debut single.
