Heated words at medical inquiry

Heated exchanges have taken place between a woman and a doctor facing medical council charges in relation to her father’s death.

Heated words at medical inquiry

Nita Eyre has Sardar Ali that she “absolutely does not” agree with his account of the events.

She added her father “deserved to die with dignity and honour.”

Dr Ali, a consultant physician in respiratory and general medicine, is contesting all five allegations of poor professional performance against him.

He is representing himself at the Medical Council’s fitness to practise inquiry.

Roy Eyre died on April 6, 2011, of complications relating to a low blood platelet count, three weeks after being admitted to Roscommon County Hospital.

Mr Eyre, 77, was admitted by his GP, who was concerned about his loss of appetite and a two- to three-week history of feeling weak.

He had been suffering from a list of medical conditions before admission, including Type 2 diabetes, moderate to severe kidney disease, a history of brain stroke, arthritis and gout.

Ms Eyre told how she was shocked at her father’s weight loss when she rushed from London to be by his side in March 2011.

“Daddy was always a big man. He was yellow in colour and his hands were shaking. I was concerned because his mother had died of Parkinson’s,” she said.

During his cross-examination of Ms Eyre, Dr Ali read out his contemporaneous medical notes and asked if she agreed with the content, to which she replied that she “absolutely did not”.

She denied that she labelled Dr Ali a liar in the presence of his colleagues.

The inquiry continues.
