Ray and Dáithí get in on make up selfie trend

Radio star Ray D’Arcy and TV presenter Dáithí Ó Sé have kickstarted a new male selfie trend by snapping themselves with a full face of make-up.

The female version of the trend has swept social networking sites with Síle Seoige, Laura Whitmore and Majella O’Donnell also sharing images of themselves without make-up to raise thousands of euro for charity.

But the Today FM host took on the male challenge yesterday by getting co-host Mairead Farrell to administer lipstick and powder for a hilarious selfie for Twitter.

“It is my very first selfie. It is called make-up selfie and it is for the men,” he told his listeners.

“It is ridiculous. I nominated Dáithí Ó Sé. People will go on and see a picture of me and it will move them to what? Tears?” he joked.

The look was completed by his co-host Mairead Farrell adding her own ponytail to the top of his head.

“I trusted Mairead’s make-up skills and it went on our Facebook and Twitter [pages],” he said while urging listeners to donate to the Irish Cancer Society by texting SHAVE to 50300.

“It is an opportunity for men who enjoy putting on women’s make-up and clothes and that’s fine,” he pointed out.

He then challenged RTÉ’s Dáithí to join him in the new trend while on paternity leave with his new baby.

Just hours later, he tweeted and posted a picture of himself sporting blusher, lipstick and a tiny pigtail.

“Ready for Coppers. My makeup selfie for Irish cancer society text shave 50300,” he tweeted to his 22,000 followers, before adding: “The mother-in-law just walked into the room when I was taking that pic!! #toolatenow.”

Thousands of Irish women have jumped on the charity drive over the past week to post images of themselves without make-up on social networking sites to raise hundreds of thousands of euro for the cancer charity.

The Irish Cancer Society has reported a huge surge in donations in the days since the trend kicked off thanks to the original #nomakeupselfie trend, which has gone viral on Twitter and Facebook.
