A war of words has erupted over an ‘artisan food market’ staged during Cork’s St Patrick’s Festival amid claims that some stalls were selling imported frozen food.

Richard Jacob, who runs the city centre Idaho Cafe — which was named Ireland’s best cafe last year — said imported sausages and shop-bought frozen chips were among the products on offer from some stalls in what was branded an “artisan” food market celebrating Cork’s food culture.

“They had nothing to do with Cork food culture,” said Mr Jacob.
