Video: UL student creates hilarious Wolf of Wall Street parody video
The video was shot as part of an election campaign for Tommy Bolger who is running for Students’ Union President at the University of Limerick.
The video replaces the high-rolling lifestyle of Wall Street trader Jordan Belfort with the more low-key existence of the UL ‘Wolf’, with hilarious consequences.
Bolger opens the video by saying: “My name is Tommy Bolger. The year I turned 22 I made €8 an hour, which really pissed me off because I had to eat beans on toast for dinner four days a week.”
A career in political life might well beckon for man-of-the-people Bolger, originally from Carlow, who is also seen tossing five euro notes away only to scurry after them soon after.
A number of prominent campus landmarks feature including the Red Raisins café in the University’s main building, the Living Bridge and the affectionately-named White House.
DibDabs and even the infamous Castletown Donkey Derby feature — a reference that no doubt goes right over the head of non-Irish viewers, of which there are plenty.
The parody video, shot and edited by Michael Boyle of Actium Films, has been viewed nearly 78,000 times since being posted on Tuesday and has been picked up by international news agency’s such as the Huffington Post and the Guardian.
Bolger’s viral hit closes with a re-creation of the bizarre chest-beating scene between Leonardo Di Caprio and Matthew McConaughey — only this time between Bolger and rather a bemused student in the accompanying role.
Voting in the Students'Union elections takes place today with Tommy facing stiff competition from the likes of Lorna Bogue who released this striking poster as part of her campaign.
