Probe into arson attack on former Quinn site
It is the fourth attack since December on the Quinn Group’s properties along the border. The latest attack was on a generator which was set alight near the former Quinn Glass factory in Derrylin, Co Fermanagh, late on Wednesday night.
Firefighters were called but no one was injured. The PSNI said officers are investigating arson.
It is the latest in a spate of attacks on the properties in the group of companies once owned by the Quinn family before a 2011 collapse. The companies are now run by Aventas.
There was a petrol bomb attack on a company building in Derrylin in February which left hundreds of homes without phone or broadband services.
In January, a 52-seater bus was set alight with burning tyres aboard at the entrance to Quinn Therm, which manufactures insulation, in Ballyconnell, Co Cavan.
And in December a fuel tank was set on fire after it was driven into the Aventas HQ in Derrylin in a failed bid to blow up the property.
The attacks have been condemned by the Quinn family.
A PSNI spokesman said that in the latest attack officers believed someone had gained entry via the rear of the premises.
A spokesman for Aventas said: “There was a fire at a transformer at the back of the plant late on Wednesday and it was quickly put out. The PSNI is looking into it, but thankfully the plant is up and running as normal.”
