‘Very easy for woman to claim rape and have her word believed’

The man accused of raping his partner at his home in Cork told investigating gardaí it was very easy for a woman to claim rape and have her word believed.

The couple met in a pub in Cork on March 2012 and started a relationship. The disputed rape occurred at the man’s house in May 2012.

When first cautioned and questioned, the accused said to a detective in his area of Cork: “I didn’t ride the bitch last night at 11 or 12. I rode her yesterday morning alright. With the last eight weeks we were riding all around us.”
