Tough pup survives 12-mile car engine journey in engine

A tough-as-nails Jack Russell was welcomed home in Manchester after surviving a 30-minute trip stuck in a car engine. Three-month-old Betty Boop somehow managed to climb up into the engine of a neighbour’s Audi A4 in Orsdall in Manchester before getting stuck.

Gavin Juliette then drove a 12 mile (19km) round trip to pick up his mother- in-law before returning home to hear a barking sound coming from his engine.

When he opened the bonnet, he was stunned to find his neighbour Gary James’s little Jack Russell staring back at him.

Gary told the Manchester Evening News that other than being a little bit frightened, the dog was fine after her unusual journey.

“We just couldn’t believe what had happened and it was even harder to believe how she’d survived.

“It’s a good job Gavin wasn’t going to Blackpool or he’d have probably ended up with a hot dog. When I first saw her in there I thought she was bound to be injured or badly burned — but apart from being covered in oil and a bit shaky, she was fine.”

“Now she’s completely back to normal and playing with the kids as if nothing happened. I’ll definitely be keeping the front gate locked from now on,” he said.
