Kinsale goes pink for Irish Cancer Society

Ireland’s gourmet capital is set to go pink this weekend for one of the country’s top cancer fundraisers.

Kinsale goes pink for Irish Cancer Society

And as 800 people put their best foot forward in Kinsale, Co Cork, for the Irish Cancer Society, they will set off singing along to a charity CD, featuring guest vocals by top jazz singer Mary Coughlan, which will be launched on the day.

She provides the guest vocals on jazz singer, Sharon Crosbie’s cover version of Amazing Grace which will be launched before the start of the Kinsale Pink Ribbon Walk on Sunday.

All proceeds from the sale of the €3 CD, which is also available to download for 99c on iTunes, the Google Play store and Spotify, will go directly to the Irish Cancer Society’s Action Breast Cancer programme.

Ms Crosbie, a brand ambassador for the walk, recorded the single live at the White Lady, Kinsale and at Madigan’s Connolly Station Dublin.

Guest vocals were provided by Ms Coughlan, Wendy Vard and Sandra Dee in Dublin, and Grainne Ryan in Kinsale.

Their single will be launched as over 800 people set off on the 10km sponsored walk around the harbour town on Sunday.

“We are delighted with Amazing Grace and are looking forward to singing it with Sharon before we start the walk on Sunday,” said Jackie Dawson, chairperson of the Kinsale Pink Ribbon Walk Committee.

“It is a fantastic sound and we sincerely thank Sharon and her band for generously giving their time and talent to this project.”

Every participant in the walk will wear a pink t-shirt, with local shops and restaurants also going pink for the weekend.

The Pink Ribbon Walk is a national fundraising initiative for the Irish Cancer Society. Since 2009, Pink Ribbon Walks in Kinsale, Kells and Killaloe have raised over €750,000 for Action Breast Cancer — the Kinsale walk alone raising some €205,000.
