SPECIAL REPORT: Flooding aftermath in Ballybunion

WALKING along the golden sands of Ballybunion on a calm, sunny day, it was hard to imagine the ferocity of the waves and storms that relentlessly battered the coastline just a short time before.

A closer look, however, revealed that the blue-flag North Kerry resort had suffered damage, though not to the calamitous extent of other areas.

A stretch of cliff at Yellow Point, at the so-called men’s beach, showed clear signs of fresh erosion and collapsed sand, while stones and other debris washed in by high tides were still scattered along the promenade.
