Garda’s evidence to PAC set to be released

A transcript of evidence from a Garda whistle-blower which could prove an embarrassment for management of the force is expected to be made public — despite some disagreement among members of the Public Accounts Committee.

Garda’s evidence to PAC set to be released

Sgt Maurice McCabe is to decide whether he wants to access a word-for-word account of yesterday’s three-hour meeting with the committee, which he would then be free to make public based on his legal advice.

The chairman of the committee, John McGuinness, said last night that if the garda wants the transcript, the committee will reconvene to consider his request which he believes should be granted.
