The Government has no credible plan for the introduction of free GP care for all by 2016, the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) has claimed.

“If the Government press ahead with their plans to implement this by 2016, they should know now that it is simply unachievable,” said the union’s GP chairman, Dr Ray Walley.

He said GP services were at breaking point after the withdrawal of €160m in resources over the past five years.
