Man jailed after bookie stabbing

Graham O’Mahony, aged 29, of 66 Hazel Rd, Togher, Cork, pleaded guilty at Cork District Court yesterday to a charge of producing the weapon.

Det Garda James Nagle previously said O’Mahony got into an altercation with another man and stabbed him a number of times in the neck outside Boyle Sports, Pearse Square, Cork, on Dec 13.

Det Garda Nagle said only minor injuries arose out of the incident.

Diarmuid Kelleher, solicitor, pointed out that O’Mahony was only charged with possession of a weapon under the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act and not with assault.

Inspector John Deasy confirmed that no complaint of assault was made by the other party.

Judge Leo Malone imposed an eight-month jail sentence on O’Mahony on the charge of producing a knife.

O’Mahony also admitted causing €100 damage to a house at Leesdale, Model Farm Rd, by putting a stone through a window.

He also pleaded guilty to burglary at Hillside Grove, Glasheen Road, on Dec 15 2013, and an attempted burglary in the same area on the same date.

Judge Malone imposed shorter concurrent sentences on O’Mahony in respect of the other offences.
