The HSE’s plan to cut over €1bn from the health service this year has been labelled a “wishlist” scattered with gaping financial holes.

Members of the Oireachtas health committee made the claim last night in the first of two high-level meetings with HSE officials and Health Minister James Reilly this week.

Speaking during a three-hour specially arranged meeting to discuss the HSE’s service plan, HSE director general Tony O’Brien attempted to assuage fears over what will take place during the next 12 months.
