Wide welcome for new city of culture chief for Limerick

The three board members who resigned from Limerick’s troubled City of Culture team are amongst the many people warmly welcoming the appointment of an acclaimed figure in arts education to salvage the troubled programme.

Mike Fitzpatrick, head of Limerick School of Art and Design, takes over the dual role of CEO and artistic director on an interim basis with immediate effect.

In a statement, former artistic director Karl Wallace, international programmer Jo Mangan, and commissioning and legacy programmer Maeve McGrath said Fitzpatrick has the “confidence of the arts community, knows the business of the cultural industry and is a very fine arts practitioner”.
