€4m harbour improvement works for Cape Clear

Simon Coveney, the marine minister, signed a contract for the improvement works yesterday and said it was a necessary measure to improve the quality of life for people on the island. The pier had badly deteriorated and was unsafe. The money will be spent securing the structure, upgrading it, and putting a storm gate between the two harbour piers.

“This initiative will provide much needed infrastructural improvement and will provide employment during and after the construction phase, giving an opportunity to develop the island’s economic potential as well as boosting quality of life on the island,” said Mr Coveney.
