All love, no hate: 1m to watch series finale
RTÉ are hoping more than 1m viewers will watch the hit show to find out what fate befalls Nidge as the net closes in on the gangland boss and his drugs business.
Bookmaker Paddy Power has tipped the finale to attract more than 1m at odds of 6/5.
Love/Hate is one of the top rated shows ever screened on RTÉ with regular audiences of 870,000 during the current fourth season.
The national broadcaster is also set for a further financial boost with DVD sales of Love/Hate box set featuring the latest series destined to be a bestseller this Christmas.
Last year, more than 75,000 copies of the award-series were pre-ordered.
More than 100,000 editions of the box set featuring the first three seasons of Love/Hate were produced last year to cater for demand.
Creator of Love/Hate, Stuart Carolan, has already begun work on writing the fifth series of the show for RTÉ, while he confirmed earlier this week that an agreement is likely to be signed before Christmas on a US remake.
Carolan admitted that the producers are looking for new talent for the next season, while he cited the characters Fran and Ado as among his own personal favourites.
He remained tight-lipped about the climax of the season finale.
However, Carolan did reveal that the cast of the award-winning crime drama are planning to reunite to watch the episode in a Dublin pub.
Paramount Pictures are also jumping on the Love/Hate bandwagon with Ron Burgundy, the fictional lead character in the hit movie, Anchorman, paying tribute to the Irish gangster series.
Actor Will Ferrell has recorded a special message to coincide with tomorrow night’s show, in part to promote the sequel of his own hit film which is due for release in Ireland next month.
Meanwhile, Love/Hate star Peter Coonan has revealed how his character is a big favourite with Irish grandmothers.
The Dubliner, who plays Fran, has become a household name thanks to his character’s violent behaviour on-screen.
He said men tend to love his character but it is the older section of the female population who are Fran’s most avid fans.
“A lot of lads come up and say they love Fran and he is their favourite. Women say ‘my granny loves you’,” laughed Coonan.
He told 2FM’s Colm Hayes Show he believes the phenomenal success of the gangland show could merit a Sex In The City-style open-top bus tour of all the dramas landmarks around the capital. He said: “The idea could be a Love/Hate tour of Dublin. Pretty grim though.”
