George O’Mahony, who has died at the age of 88, was a former company secretary of Cork Examiner Publications Ltd and a director of Thomas Crosbie and Co Ltd.

George had a ‘talent for administration’

In the late 1940s, he joined the company’s clerical department where his talent for administration was recognised. Appointed a director in 1978, he became company secretary in 1985. After working with the group for more than 40 years, he retired in 1990.

His parents died when he was young and he was reared by relatives. A bright student, he was educated by the Christian Brothers at the North Monastery.
