Roy’s first Man Utd contract on sale for €2k

His new job might have generated Google searches in the millions when details emerged, but it is a 20-year-old contract which purportedly belonged to Roy Keane that is attracting great interest on another well-known website, eBay.

The contract’s seller, “Capshark”, is selling what he claims to be the new Ireland assistant manager’s first contract with Manchester United. The item, given the title “Roy Keane’s original contract with Manchester United — his own copy” on eBay, last night secured a top bid of £2,250 (€2,670).

According to Capshark there are two items for sale; a four-page contract signed by Keane, Alex Ferguson, and then Manchester United CEO Martin Edwards; and, on Manchester United-headed paper, a seven-page document detailing the full offer made to Keane in terms of earnings and other benefits.

“Nothing like this has ever been auctioned before,” Capshark boasted on eBay.

The contract document states that Keane was entitled to a “basic wage” of £250,000 from July 1993 to June 1997. However, that was to be boosted with, among other bonuses, his share of the £100,000 on offer to the first team if they won the Premier League and a share of £25,000 if they came in the top four.
