A teenager made a desperate attempt to save his school friend from drowning, an inquest has been told.

At the Co Clare Coroner’s Court, Michael O’Donoghue, of Cosgrove Park, Moyross, described his efforts to save his friend, Joseph Killeen, aged 17, from Kylevoher, Meelick, Co Clare, on July 12.

The tragedy occurred on a Friday evening on one of the hottest days of the year and was the sixth drowning across the country that week.
