Man withdrew almost €6k from robbery proceeds

Ukrainian criminals, who ripped off a Dutch bank in an internet robbery, electronically transferred the money via a Dublin bank to a personal bank account in a West Cork town, a district court was told yesterday.

A man living in Clonakilty withdrew €5,932 from the Permanent TSB branch in the town and was preparing to send it to the Eastern Europe country when gardaí were alerted by bank staff, about the international money laundering scam.

The accused Adey Artorious from 54 Woodlands, Clonakilty pleaded guilty to a charge brought under the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act 2010 in that he engaged in acquiring, possessing, handling and transferring of property which was the proceeds of criminal conduct.
