A committee member credited with exposing financial irregularities in Cork County VEC has asked the permanent head of the Department of Education to appoint an inspector to further investigate the education body.

Humphrey Deegan has written to the department’s secretary general Seán Ó Foghlú over what he described as concerns about “significant corporate governance failures” in Cork County VEC.

He claimed efforts had been made to remove him from the general committee after he resigned as chairman of an audit committee and refused to endorse an internal audit report.
