Costume designer to get Maureen O’Hara award
The award, in honour of one of the most glamorous leading ladies of the silver screen, Maureen O’Hara, is presented annually to a woman that has excelled in her chosen field in film.
“I am so excited that Consolata Boyle is being honoured this year with the award. She is a truly remarkable costume designer who brings such texture and life to every character she dresses,” said Ms O’Hara.
“From the impoverished struggles of Angela’s Ashes to the majestic inner turmoil of The Queen, we feel for each of them in deeper revelations than we ever imagine through her visions in style, colour and movement.’’
Consolata Boyle is an awardwinning designer whose credits include the recent productions, Byzantium and Philomena, as well as Angela’s Ashes, Tamara Drewe, The Iron Lady and The Queen, for which she received an Oscar nomination.
She is also a BAFTA nominee and winner of numerous IFTA and Primetime Emmy awards.
In 2008, Kerry Film Festival introduced the Maureen O’Hara Award for women in film and Brenda Fricker, an Oscar winner for her role in My Left Foot, was the inaugural recipient.
Saoirse Ronan was last year’s winner.
Ms Boyle will be presented with the award at a ceremony in Siamsa Tíre, Tralee, next Saturday.
The festival started yesterday and continues until Saturday.
