First it was Only a Game, now Eamon Dunphy has travelled The Rocky Road in the first half of his memoirs, with the iconoclastic journalist and broadcaster still raging against the dying of the light.

Speaking on radio yesterday, Dunphy railed against the political classes he believes the country has been “cursed with”, and drew parallels between the struggles of many families in Ireland today and the impoverished conditions in which he grew up in Drumcondra.

Discussing volume one of his memoirs, The Rocky Road, and with his unique voice sometimes straining with emotion, at other times sparking with anger, the former Ireland international told Ray D’Arcy on Today FM that, yes, sometimes he got it wrong.
