Conference on ageing

Cllr Catherine Clancy announced details of the ‘Cork — Towards an Age-Friendly City’ event yesterday to mark International Day of Older Persons.
The conference in City Hall on Nov 4 will explore what lessons a city can learn from its older citizens; it will address the challenges of ageing; and it will also explore how cities can develop structures and services for older people.
“The conference is open to all Cork’s older citizens and will be a celebration of the achievements of individuals and organisations addressing the older population of the city,” Ms Clancy said.
“I hope it will encourage those attending to voice their opinions on how Cork should develop in the future toward the stated aim of being an age-friendly city.”
The conference, which will run from 11am to 3pm followed by a tea-dance, will be chaired by broadcaster Derek Davis.
Attendance is free and refreshments and a light lunch will be provided.
But people must register beforehand by emailing chris_dorgan@corkcity.ie, or tel: 021-4924076.
This event is being supported by the HSE, Cork City Partnership, Retired People’s Network Cork and various community groups.
