Error sees former CSO worker overpaid by €297k

A miscalculation at the CSO resulted in one civil servant getting paid two salaries for six years despite the official’s best efforts to have the bonus wages stopped.

The worker twice contacted the CSO to ask it to stop paying out a second salary and on the second occasion enclosed a cheque for €120,000.

It all happened after the official was transferred to another department in Jan 2006, but the CSO did not properly inform its own accountants that the person no longer worked under its remit.
