The chairman of the Road Safety Authority, Gay Byrne has criticised the behaviour of some judges who are failing to impose the requirement on offending motorists to produce their driving licence in court.

Mr Byrne said the RSA was “alarmed” at the manner in which some courts were dealing with road traffic matters.

He claimed some courts were not enforcing the requirement for drivers to produce their driving licence in court, despite the fact the Oireachtas has passed legislating requiring the courts to do so and making it a specific offence not to produce a licence.
