A former vocational school, purchased by Cork County Council just five years ago for a sum believed to be about €800,000, is set to be demolished.

Demolition work on the 1.54-acre site of the former Coláiste Chairbre in Dunmanway is set to begin next month, according to Independent councillor Declan Hurley, who said boundary fencing would be installed and the former school returned “to a green-field site” until a decision is made “as to what to do with it”.

The deterioration of the former vocational school, located at the eastern end of the town, had been of concern to locals in recent years, Mr Hurley said.
