Impact of austerity measures highlighted

Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly has questioned whether the Government is fully aware of the impact its austerity measures are having on vulnerable sections of the public.

Ms O’Reilly, who is set to become European Ombudsman next month, raised the issue during a European Network of Ombudsmen conference in Dublin yesterday.

In a speech entitled ‘Making the Citizen Count’, Ms O’Reilly said she is aware of the difficult choices those in power have to make to revive the economy.
