Majella ‘overwhelmed’ by level of support for cancer charity head shave
Daniel told fans: “She really hopes that her efforts will really help to make a difference. She says that you too would make an even bigger difference if you would take the time to go to www.cancer.ie and click on her picture and you will find a donate button where you can very easily give what you feel is right for you.
“Majella says that absolutely no amount is too small and just the fact that you have done something to help another person will keep a big smile on her face during this period of her life.”
Daniel, 51, who is in the US, added in a message on his website: “Thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart.”
Majella, 53, raised more than €300,000 for the Irish Cancer Society with her hair-shave on The Late Late Show on Friday and money is still pouring in.
She did the shave live just hours after going through her first chemotherapy treatment.
Daniel, who was told by Majella to continue his business in the US when he wanted to cancel the trip, spoke to her via Skype while she was undergoing chemo.
The website of the Irish Cancer Society crashed after Majella’s head shave, but the charity has since resolved the difficulty.
People can donate to Majella’s Pink Appeal for the society by texting ‘Pink’ to 50300 to donate €4 or CallSave 1850 60 60 60 to make a donation.
Cancer Society chief executive John McCormick said Majella was brave to take the huge step of shaving her hair live on TV.
“Losing your hair to cancer treatment can be a devastating time for many women, as can proactively shaving your hair.
“In doing this Majella will help other people out there now with breast cancer know that they are not going through this alone.”
