Jeremy Irons didn’t really want to become an actor, an audience of his admirers heard.

Irons: ‘Acting offers holiday from life’

The multi-award winning Englishman who spends most of his time nowadays living near Skibbereen, had contemplated his options of joining the circus, a travelling fun fair, or going into the theatre after he finished school.

“So, being middle class, I chose the theatre,” he told an audience of students and fans at NUI Galway’s Literary and Debating Society.
