‘Happy Days’ set to rock the block

With another singing and dancing video that will likely make you weep with laughter, East Cork trio Crystal Swing have released a cover of the Happy Days theme tune.

‘Happy Days’ set to rock the block

It begins with credits that inform us that mother, Mary Murray Burke, is starring as Miss Humming Bottom, while daughter Dervla is Candy Boo Boo, and son Derek is Rockin’ Ricky, a fella that likes to do the splits while lying on diner tables surrounded by young ‘wans’.

The initial scenes are set in a secondary school on a Friday afternoon. Miss Humming Bottom is a somewhat sexpot science teacher with a West Cork/Kerry accent as thick as tarmacadam.

Tormented by her out-of-control pupils who pelt paper balls at her as she enters the science lab, she thunders “there’ll be no Happy Days” to Rockin’ Ricky as she waves a metre stick around menacingly.

The pupils don’t take a blind bit of notice and start swinging black lacy bras around and playing clapping games.

Meanwhile, daughter Dervla smiles dreamily as a classmate suggestively eats a chip in front of her.

Then all hell breaks loose as in true 1950s musical style with the weekend beckoning, the class jump on the desks and start rocking and rolling out of the classroom into the school corridor before skidding over to Eddie Rocket’s Diner in Blackpool.

Miss Humming Bottom has acquired a beefy biker at this point and proceeds to maul him in the diner as Rockin’ Ricky dances around hitting girls on the bottom with a wooden spoon and doing the Hucklebuck.

The video is nuts and will likely go viral just like the ‘He Drinks Tequila’ that brought them Stateside to the Ellen de Generes show in 2010 and led to a raft of tours across Ireland and the UK.

Mum Mary revealed earlier this year that the family had been invited to try out for The X Factor.

She turned down the offer for “fear of us being mocked as a family going up there”.
