€3m price tag on Killarney hotel

One of Killarney’s hey-day 1960s hotel success stories has come back up for sale after several bouts of redevelopment.

Originally the Ryan Hotel Killarney, the Quality Hotel is still a bit of a landmark in the top tourist town, on the Cork side at Park Road.

It was last up for sale in 2011 guiding €4m. Now, 35 holiday suites developed alongside for investor tax reliefs have been added, bringing the hotel’s bedroom tally to 188.

The hotel is trading successfully, and is aimed at a family break sector. The Quality Hotel and Suites is being sold for a receiver David Carson of Deloitte, and agents Savills are seeking offers around €3m million for the site on seven acres.

Killarney had one million tourism visits last year, a quarter of which came from the US, and US business is up 19% in the past year.

Denis O’Donoghue of Savills says the three-star Quality Hotel is only hotel currently on the open market in Killarney and offers tremendous value, as it has a very good income stream. It is currently being managed by BDL Hotels, and trade is not affected by the sale.

The complex includes lobby, lounge, two bars, a 20 seat restaurant, and a leisure centre with an 18 metre pool, and a gym refurbished in the mid-2000s. There is also on-site parking for 250 cars.
