Gardaí have shut down several pub bingo sessions on the northside of Cork city.

Gardaí in Gurranabraher, acting on a complaint, advised all publicans in the area in recent days that bingo on a licensed premises is prohibited under Section 9 of the Gaming and Lotteries Act 1956.

Two Garda sergeants then visited several pubs in recent days to ensure that the plug had been pulled on the games.
