Coalition expects to defeat motion in Seanad

Coalition senators expect to defeat a motion to overhaul organ donation legislation today when members of the Upper House are recalled from their holidays for a special vote on the issue.

Senators from across the political parties last night expressed confusion about the procedure for the special meeting of members, which has been forced by Fianna Fáil’s Mark Daly.

Alex White, the junior health minister, is expected to answer questions about the move to annul the legislation governing organ transplants in Ireland.
