File for DPP after €100k heroin seizure
The man in his late 20s, who had been detained at Mayfield Garda Station over the weekend for questioning in relation to Friday’s drug seizure, was released without charge yesterday morning.
The man was arrested following the search of a house on Model Farm Rd as part of an operation targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs in Cork City.
The house was raided at about 4.30pm by members from the Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit, assisted by the Garda Dog Unit.
During the search, heroin with an estimated street value of up to €100,000 and cannabis herb and resin with an estimated street value of up to €4,000, were recovered.
Gardaí also seized various drug paraphernalia and several mobile phones.
The man was arrested at the scene and was detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
Local Sinn Féin councillor Henry Cremin congratulated the gardaí on the seizure.
“Heroin has been the cause of a great deal of misery and death across this country and every effort to eradicate it from our community must be made,” he said.
“It is depressing that we see a worrying increase in people seeking help for heroin addiction.
“We can’t stick our heads in the sand and pretend that heroin is a Dublin problem.
“This is a significant seizure and it indicates the potential market that dealers believe now exists in our city.”
