Cabinet in rude health, claims Leo

While many voters believe the Cabinet is not fit to govern, one of its leading members insists they are at least fit.

Sports Minister Leo Varadkar has hit back at the image of TDs as beer-swilling gym-dodgers.

“There is a public perception that we spend a lot of our time in the Dáil bar,” Varadkar said as he exercised a fine line in understatement following national outrage when it was revealed deputies knocked back booze until 5am while debating the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill last month.
