Taoiseach Enda Kenny will not reveal how much he has claimed from a Cabinet mortgage tax perk for second homes since taking power.

As the Government changes the law to give banks a much freer hand to repossess the properties of people in debt distress, opposition parties have urged the Taoiseach to “come clean” on his expense claim.

The dual abode allowance — which, while opposition leader, Mr Kenny pledged to do away with in Government — allows Cabinet members with constituencies outside Dublin to claim for homes in the city.
