Public urged to record meteor shower details

Tonight’s being touted as the best time to see a spectacular meteor shower, when as many as 60 “shooting stars” could streak across the sky every hour.

Astronomy Ireland is urging people to gaze into the night sky and count the number of shooting stars they see — and if the weather is as predicted, they could enjoy celestial fireworks.

Stargazers will get the chance to see Perseid meteors as the Earth passes through the debris trail left by the Swift-Tuttle comet.
