Claire Grady has been named the first female editor of the Irish Independent.

The former editor of The Herald, she replaces Stephen Rae, who was appointed Independent News and Media’s editor-in-chief in June.

Ms Grady is a former news editor at the Irish Independent and has been opinion editor and executive editor at The Herald.
