Women are largely excluded from economic decision-making roles in Ireland in the same way as they were in the run-up to the financial collapse, it has been claimed.

The National Women’s Council of Ireland was responding to reports in yesterday’s Irish Examiner that women make up just 25% of members of state boards under the Department of Finance and 22% of members of boards under the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform.

Women make up 63% of board members under the Department of Children and Youth Affairs, 47% in Education, 44% in Health, and 39% in the Department of Social Protection.
