Teens with severe mental and physical disabilities are being forced to make do without vital State help due to an “unexpected” rise in demand — which the HSE was first warned of four years ago.

The situation is taking place at Stewart’s Hospital in Dublin, which previously promised parents their children would be helped from “the cradle to the grave”.

Due to the seriousness of each patient’s condition, children and teens with severe mental and physical disabilities who are cared for at the Palmerstown-based facility are given extensive physiotherapy, occupational therapy, education, and social supports.
