Council of State convened to advise president on abortion legislation

President Michael D Higgins will convene the Council of State today to advise him on whether he should refer the abortion legislation to the Supreme Court.

It is the first time President Higgins has convened the Council of State since he was elected.

He has until Wednesday to decide on whether to refer the Bill to the court, which would examine if it is agreeable with the Constitution.

<p> Volunteers attending the DMax 7.7 fitness event, in honour of Darragh McCarthy, who tragically passed away last year at just 21 years of age. The sold-out fitness event saw over 300 competitors take on DMax 7.7 featuring seven fitness stations, lasting seven minutes per station with a two minute transition between station. Competitors entered in teams of two and tested their strength, endurance and mental resilience across a series of challenges including rope skipping, ski-erg, medicine ball, assault bike, rowing, burpee box jumps and wall balls.
