Daniel asks for prayers, not cards, as Majella is treated for breast cancer
Daniel O’Donnell’s wife revealed she is undergoing treatment and is hopeful of making a full recovery.
Daniel posted a message to fans on his website, which Majella usually looks after.
He asked fans not to send cards or letters as they would not be able to respond to them personally, which the couple normally like to do.
“I’m sorry to inform you Majella was recently diagnosed with breast cancer,” he wrote. “She is undergoing treatment at present and as it was found in the early stages, we are very hopeful of a full recovery. I know that many of you would like to send your good wishes to Majella but at this time we cannot deal with a lot of mail so we would ask you not to send cards or letters. All we need are your prayers to help us through this difficult time and we know we can rely on that.”
The 53-year-old mother of two released a statement through the singer’s manager, Sean Reilly. He said: “They are hopeful of a full recovery and are now respectfully appealing to the media to allow them their privacy.”
Daniel told Highland Radio they have been inundated with messages of support and are hopeful of a “very positive outcome” after Majella’s surgery.
Daniel’s sister, Margo said: “Daniel told me the news and I was taken aback by it. But then again there are not too many families in Ireland who have not been touched by cancer. They are two very strong people and I have no doubt they will get through this together.”
